The truth is that if you're not using accessories, you're not getting the most out of your iPad. This guide will help you find the best accessories to enhance your iPad experience in 2024.
1. Protective Cases
ESR Shift Magnetic Case
The first thing I get for any iPad is a case because they're not cheap and I'm not super careful. This year, I chose the ESR Shift Magnetic Case for its versatility. It has six modes and nine adjustable angles, making it perfect for reading, writing, watching movies, or editing videos. Even when removed from the protective outer shell, the slim back case still covers the back, sides, and corners. Plus, it magnetically snaps to my fridge.
2. Stands
12 South Hover Bar Duo (2nd Gen)
If you don't want a case but still want your iPad at a convenient angle, check out the second-gen 12 South Hover Bar Duo. This unique stand allows for an extremely adjustable stand or a surface clamp, letting you position your iPad in portrait or landscape mode. It’s easy to switch between the base and the surface clamp.
Simple Adjustable Stand
For a simpler solution, a solid, completely adjustable stand can position your iPad at the right angle. There are plenty of options available, and I’ll have links in the description.
3. Gaming Controllers
Customizable Controllers
I always add a gaming controller because I love using my iPad with the Xbox Game Pass app. For fully customizable colors, check out Colorware. They offer custom designs for other accessories too.
iPad-Specific Controllers
There are triggers and controllers that attach directly to your iPad, making it more comfortable to hold. Some options include mechanical triggers and powered triggers for fast tap fire.
Cooling Solutions
If you game at high graphic settings, your iPad may heat up, leading to screen dimming. A magnetic cooler can actively cool your iPad. It connects with a magnetic patch and starts cooling immediately, without using your iPad’s port.
4. Productivity Accessories
USB-C Hubs
Hitachi USB-C Mobile Pro Hub
For compact functionality, the Hitachi USB-C Mobile Pro Hub provides a USB-C port for charging, a USB-A port, an HDMI port, and a headphone jack.
UGreen USB-C Hub
If you prefer a hub with a cable, the UGreen option includes two USB-A ports, a USB-C port, HDMI and network ports, and SD/microSD card readers.
Stand Hub
Another interesting option is the stand hub, which props the iPad while offering HDMI out, USB-A, USB-C ports, a headphone jack, and SD/microSD card slots.
Kensington Studio Dock
For iPad Pro or iPad Air 5/6 users, the Kensington Studio Dock is a fantastic all-in-one solution. It magnetically attaches to your iPad, charges it, and offers wireless charging for your iPhone and AirPods. It includes several ports and a sturdy, adjustable stand.
5. Screen Protectors
ESR Amorite Screen Protector
If you have kids or are just not careful with your iPad, a screen protector is essential. The ESR Amorite screen protector comes with an easy application tray and exceeds military-grade standards, protecting your iPad from scratches.
6. External Storage
External SSDs
Apple increased the base model storage on the iPad Pro and iPad Air, but additional storage is expensive. External SSDs offer a cost-effective solution for extra storage, allowing you to share the storage with other devices.
7. Chargers and Power Banks
UGreen Nexode X 65W Charger
The iPad comes with a single port 20W charger, which may not be enough. The UGreen Nexode X 65W charger can charge one device with up to 65W or split it to charge three devices.
UGreen Nexode X 160W Charger
For more power, the Nexode X 160W charger offers up to 140W max from a single port, ideal for quickly charging a MacBook Pro.
UGreen 145W Power Bank
When on the go, the UGreen 145W Power Bank is a must-have. It has a 25,000 mAh capacity, can charge multiple devices, and features a digital display to show remaining power.
8. Keyboard Cases
Apple Magic Keyboard
Apple offers several keyboard cases, including the new Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro, Magic Keyboard Folio, and Smart Keyboard. The new Magic Keyboard is thinner, lighter, and has more responsive keys, a fantastic trackpad, and a full row of function keys.
Logitech Slim Folio
For older iPads, I prefer the Logitech Slim Folio for its sturdiness and function keys.
ESR Magnetic Keyboard Case 360
A more affordable third-party option is the ESR Magnetic Keyboard Case 360, which floats the iPad in both horizontal and vertical orientations. It has backlit keys, gesture support, and a detachable back case.
9. Mechanical Keyboards
Keychron Q4 Pro
For the best typing experience, I use the Keychron Q4 Pro mechanical keyboard. It’s extremely sturdy, compact, and can be paired with up to three devices. It features hot-swappable switches and KSA double-shot PBT keycaps.
10. Mice
Logitech MX Master 3S
My favorite mouse is the Logitech MX Master 3S. It’s comfortable, has extra buttons and scrollers, and boosts productivity. Previous generations are also great and more affordable.
Logitech M350 Pebble
For a smaller, portable, and less expensive option, check out the Logitech M350 Pebble.
11. Organization Solutions
Tomtoc Portfolio Case
To keep all your accessories organized, the Tomtoc Portfolio Case is perfect. It has a compartment for the iPad, multiple elastic straps for accessories, and a large compartment for larger items. The hard shell exterior adds extra protection, and it’s wrapped in water-repellent fabric.
