In today's guide, I'm going to show you how to make your PS5 controller completely overpowered using the new Strike Pack mod attachment for the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller. This device is made by the same company that created the original Strike Pack for the PlayStation 4, but this version is specifically designed for the DualSense, adding additional back buttons and other features like cheats and mods for various games.
Why Consider the Strike Pack?
While I'm not condoning or suggesting the use of cheats, it's important to note that for just $60, the Strike Pack is one of the most cost-effective and easiest ways to get additional back buttons for your DualSense. This is a significant saving compared to the $200 price tag of the official DualSense Edge or the hassle of taking apart your controller to install a custom back button attachment. With the Strike Pack, all you need to do is attach it to the controller and use a USB Type-C cable to connect it to the PS5.
Setting Up Your Strike Pack
Here's a step-by-step guide on how to set up and use the Strike Pack:
-
Attach the Strike Pack:Simply attach the Strike Pack to the back of your DualSense controller.
-
Connect via USB:Use a USB Type-C cable to connect the controller to your PS5.
-
Button Assignment Mode:To assign buttons, first put the Strike Pack into button assignment mode.
-
Assign Buttons:Hold down a button on the controller that you want to assign while also pressing a button on the Strike Pack at the same time. The indicator light will flash green when the button is assigned.
-
Modify Assignments:To change or delete a button assignment, press the button you want to clear. The indicator light will turn red, signaling that the button has been cleared.
-
Save Configuration:Press one of the mapping buttons again to save your custom button configuration.
Using the Strike Pack
In my testing, I found the Strike Pack to be comfortable to use. The buttons are well-placed and work great. However, there are a couple of drawbacks:
-
Wired Connection Required:The Strike Pack requires a wired USB connection at all times. If you prefer playing with a Bluetooth connection, this might be a dealbreaker.
-
Special Setup Needed:You have to disable Bluetooth on the PS5 for the Strike Pack to be detected, which is somewhat inconvenient.
Built-In Mods and Game Packs
The Strike Pack is known for its built-in mods and game packs, which can be accessed by pressing the two buttons on the back to switch from Tournament Mode to Game Pack Mode. Here’s how you can use these features:
-
Strike Pack Central App:Download and use the Strike Pack Central app on your smartphone or tablet to load and configure game packs.
-
Game Packs and Mods:The app provides access to various game packs that include mods such as aim assist, rapid fire, and recoil adjustments for games like Call of Duty, Fortnite, and Apex Legends.
-
Custom Macros:The app also allows you to create custom macros or button combos that can be assigned to a single button on the Strike Pack.
While I don't recommend using cheats in online games, it's worth noting how easy it is for someone to attach this device to a controller and use an app to install cheats.
If you're simply looking to add extra back buttons to your DualSense, you can leave the device in Tournament Mode, which disables any cheats or game packs but keeps the back buttons active. For just $60 and with no complicated assembly required, the Strike Pack is a great alternative to the $200 DualSense Edge if you want additional functionality without the premium price tag.
