Bang & Olufsen has launched the second version of its superb Beoplay Portal wireless gaming headset – and unlike the original, they’re compatible with both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, allowing more gamers to experience the brand’s high-quality audio.

The battery life appears to be one of the most significant upgrades, with the new model promising 19 hours of wireless performance and an amazing 42 hours over Bluetooth with only active noise canceling activated.

That’s a significant gain over the original model’s battery life, and it competes with the stunning Sony WH-1000XM4, which now tops our best headphones buying list.

The new Beoplay Portal headsets include certain high-end capabilities that you’d expect to find in a more costly gaming headset. Support for aptX, AAC, and SBC audio codecs, as well as a 2.4GHz low-latency connection, promise to address some of the original’s connectivity concerns.

You can also use Dolby Atmos to give depth and realism to your audio quality, making the headphones an excellent choice for gaming and music listening. And, like the previous pair, we believe the new Beoplay Portal gaming headset should include a Dolby Atmos license, or it will cost $15/£15.

Some of the original model’s features have also been maintained. The Virtual Boom Arm function has been reintroduced, providing users with a clearer voice while separating other background noises.

The new Beoplay Portal gaming headset has the same high-quality design as the original for a comfortable fit, but it weighs 279g rather than 282g.

We’re excited to try out the new Beoplay Portal gaming headset, especially after hearing about the upgrades. We’ll have a comprehensive review up in a few days, and this new pair of headphones could end up being one of the greatest gaming headsets money can buy.
